Gas spring wallbed mechanism, compact

The wallbed is a practical furniture for small living rooms, bedrooms, chindren’s rooms, either as a guest bed or daily use. When you not sleep on it, it can easily be folded into the closet or cabinet line, saving space and does not damage aesthetically the view of the room, staying hidden.

It also can be combined with a sofa bed in the front of the cabinet, and folded down in seconds for use. The gas spring hardware can be used for single beds, to be folded into the cabinet from the side.

The product has a small installation depth, and suitable to make bunk wallbed.

Technical information for wallbed design and construction

Contents of the package:

  • 1 set mechanism
  • 2 pcs gas spring
  • 2 pcs locking tab
  • 1 pc assembly template and description

Wallbed design

  • The wallbeds are unique furniture, so the design of the furniture for each piece is required to made separately.
  • The description helps to draw the blueprints, however, certain dimensions should be calculated by the user based on the thickness of the materials used and the dimensions of the mattress(es) to be used on the bed.
  • Basic data for calculation: dimensions of the mattress, and thickness of the frame materials.
  • The material thichness of the bed and cabinet frames (S1) is 18-25mm, the material of the corner beam supporting the bed frame is min. 40x40mm thick.
  • The material of the cabinet side panels (S2) is min. 36mm thick, in which a space for the mechanism must be provided.
  • Using the hardware you can make a bed with max. 900×2200 mm size mattress, but it is more important, that the bed weight does not exceed 70 Kg.
  • For proper operation, the bed weight requires the suitable gas spring. The table below is helpful in the selection, and for intermediate values, the weight shoud be rounded.
  • The weight of the bed means the total weight of the moving parts (bed grid, mattress… ect.)
  • The wallbed must be fixed to the wall to prevent tilting. The items you need for this can be found in the set.
  • The bed frame height is fixed at 150 mm. If the mattress does not come out of the frame, it can be lifted between the bed grid and the corner beam by material installation. The method can also be used to increase the height of the lying surface, but the mattress should remain at least half in the frame.

Wallbed mounting, hardware installation

  • The first step is to calculate the internal dimensions of the cabinet:
Internal cabinet width = mattress width + 2x frame thickness + 28 mm
Internal cabinet height = mattress height + 2x frame thickness + 51 mm
  • Using the calculated dimensions, separate boxes for the cabinet and bed frame can be prepared, taking into account the coverings, joints, and corner beams.

  • At least one side panel of the cabinet frame shall be removably fixed to allow for the installation of the mechanism and the possible replacement of gas springs at a later date.
  • Using the template provided in the package, pre-drill the holes for the mechanism on the cabinet and bed sides.
  • The mechanism must be fitted and fixed to the bed frame first and the gas springs installed.
  • The preassembled bed frame is screwed to the side panels and the wardrobe is assembled.
  • The place of use must be prepared to recieve the bed, drill the holes of the fastening elements on the wall.
  • The fastening tabs must be screwed onto the wall, put the wallbed in place, and attach to the mounted fasteners.
  • You need to install the bed grid, the place the mattress inside, and finally the gas springs.
  • You have to try the operation, check the opening and closing.

Gas spings and force range

Due to the operation of the wallbed, it is important to use a gas spring of adequate strenght for the bed of the final weight. If the gas spring is weaker, it is difficult to fold the bed into the cabinet and it may not stay closed, it will return. If the gas spring is stronger, the bed is hard or not be opened at all.

  • If the weight of the bed changes significantly during use (for example mattress change), the built-in gas springs may needed to be replaced, depending on the weight change, stronger or weaker.
  • The gas springs are wear parts, wear out over time, become weak and need replacement. They can also be purchased separately as a spare part, so you don’t have to buy the complete set of hardware when replacing.
  • Using the bed with deteriorated, damaged or worn-out gas spring is dangerous! In this case, both telescopes must be removed immediately, and the bed must be stored in the opened position until the gas spring are replaced. The wallbed can be used safely without gas springs when it is down.
  • In order to make the best use of the telescopes lifetime, attention shoud be paid to their integrity. The gas springs are filled with high pressure nitrogen. It is forbidden to knock, tension, cut or heat the gas springs! Do not touch scratches, dirt, paint, glue, or any foreign material that adheres to the surface.
