Technical informations for Fedbaer gas springs

Production parameters of gas springs

  • General tolerences for the production of Fedbaer gas springs: structural lenght ± 2 mm, stroke ± 2 mm, force ± 5%, but minimum ± 15 N. For certain types, the manufacturing tolerances may differ from those specified.
  • The Fedbaer gas spring lifetime on test bench is 100 000 cycles, but with the right specifications and installation you can get more than 100 000 cycles of life. The life of the gas spring is greatly affected by the damage and impurities of the piston rod, or lack of proper installation and design.

Installation of the gas springs

  • The gas spring is only suitable for the load parallel to the shaft of the piston rod. In order to avoid lateral loads, it is possible to use ball joint connections.
  • When designing a general design, it is advisable to make and installationin such a way that no full stroke can ever be exploited, with at least 5 mm free movement in the closed position.
  • In case of construction when precise opening position is important, the positioning must be solved with external buffers, and when the gas spring is open min. 5 mm pre-tension, in the closed state min. 5 mm. unplugged stroke shoud be planned.
  • The gas spring should not be used as a stopper for heavy and/or pivoting elements. For this task, external stoppers, end position limiters are rerquired.
  • If the gas spring operates in a low or high temperature environment, it is necessary to chose a type that will withstand this (coldproof gas springs) (heat resistant gas spring) and count the temperature on the spring force.
  • The gas spring are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. However, it is recommended to use stainless steel (Fedbaer Inox series) gas spring in a humid environment on in a place where moisture is collected and retained.
  • For long service life, it is advisable to install the gas spring in the position where it is most time (normally open or close) to make the rod down.

    • Heat resistant gas spring: min.: -30 °C, max.: +200 °C
  • The maximum permissible operation speed of the gas springs is 5 cycles (open/close) / minute.
  • The gas spring must be protected from dirt, welding particles, and physical damage.
  • Do not touch the gas spring with paint, glue, or any foregin material stickin to the surface.
  • The installed gas spring does not need maintenance.
  • It is forbidden to force, puncture, tapping the gas springs.
  • It is forbidden to directly operate the gas spring by hand, without fastening.
  • Do not expose the gas spring to naked flame or fire.

Guarantee for gas springs

  • We give 15 months guarantee for Fedbaer gas springs.
  • The start of the guarantee corresponds to the date of manufacture on the gas spring (week/year eg.: 03.2017.) which is also the date of sale by the manufacturer.
  • The RPV Technik Ltd. examines faulty gas springs within warranty period, and replaces them free of charge in case of manufacture and material defective product.
  • The place where the guaratee is validated is the manufacturers site. (contact us).

The guarantee cannot be validated in the following cases:

  • The piston rod, the cylinder, or the end fittings damage or deformation.
  • Mechanical modification of the product.
  • The presence or traces of foregin matter, coating, scratches or dirt on the piston rod.
  • Extreme wear due to excessive use.
  • Operation outside the prescripbed temperature range.
  • Lack, damage, or unreadibility of identification tags.

Works safety for gas springs

  • The gas spring is charged with high pressure (200 bar) nitrogen gas.
  • Due to the structural design of the gas spring, in an unharmed state it does not constitute a hazardous source in harmony with the requirements of directive 2006/42/EC.
  • It is forbidden to disassemble the gas springs incorrectly.

Waste treatment for gas springs

  • The gas spring can be handled as scrap metal after depressurization and oil drain.
  • The gas from the telescope is harmless to the environment.

Depressurization and oil drain

Warning! During depressurization the gas from the cylinder may scatter swarfs and oil drops.
Use of safety goggles is mandatory!

In case of flexible blockable gas springs:

  1. The gas spring must be rigidly fastened with clamps or in vise.
  2. Hold the release pin in closed state.
  3. Carefully open the cylinder at 20-25mm from the end of the connector side with a small drill (DIN333A 1,6mm recommended) until the gas starts to flow.
  4. Wait until all the gas is gone.
  5. Then expand the gap to appropriate size and drain the oil from the gas tank into the waste oil tank.

In case of rigid blockable in compression gas springs:

  1. The gas spring must be rigidly fastened with clamps or in vise.
  2. Hold the release pin in closed state.
  3. Carefully open the cylinder at 45-50mm from the end of the rod side with a small drill (DIN333A 1,6mm recommended) until the gas starts to flow.
  4. Wait until all the gas is gone.
  5. Make a second hole, now 30-35mm from the end of the connector side.
  6. Through the second hole, drain the oil from the gas tank into the waste oil tank.

In case of rigid blockable in extension gas springs:

  1. The gas spring must be rigidly fastened with clamps or in vise.
  2. Hold the release pin in closed state.
  3. Carefully open the cylinder at 30-35mm from the end of the connector side with a small drill (DIN333A 1,6mm recommended) until the gas starts to flow.
  4. Wait until all the gas is gone.
  5. Make a second hole, now 45-50mm from the end of the rod side.
  6. Through the second hole, drain the oil from the gas tank into the waste oil tank.

In case of all other gas springs:

  1. The gas spring must be rigidly fastened with clamps or in vise.
  2. Carefully open the cylinder at 20-25mm from the end of the connector side with a small drill (DIN333A 1,6mm recommended) until the gas starts to flow.
  3. Wait until all the gas is gone.
  4. Then expand the gap to appropriate size and drain the oil from the gas tank into the waste oil tank.

Technical informations for mechanisms with gas springs

Useful advices

  • Installation of the mechanisms must always be in accordance with the specifications.
  • For mechanisms, always install gas springs that matching the mass of the moving part.
  • If stronger gas spring is used, the structure will be neither durable or robust, but because of the excess power it will be harder to open/close, and the bidy can be deformated.
  • When using weaker gas springs than needed, moving the structure may require considerable manual force.

Professional operation of furniture products

  • The installed gas spring mechanism may not contact or interfere with anything during operation.
  • The gas spring mechanism maximum operating speed is 2 cycles (open/close) / minute.
  • The gas spring mechanism must be stored and used wihin the following temperature range: min.: -30 °C, max.: +80 °C
  • The gas spring must be protected from dirt, welding particles, and physical damage.
  • Do not touch the gas spring with paint, glue, or any foregin material sticking to the surface.
  • The installed gas spring does not need maintenance.
